With the kidney function decline, FSGS patients would suffer more and more
symptoms, fatigue is one of these sysmptoms. Due to fatigue, patients can not
and have not spirits to do the normal activities, influencing the work and life
of patients a lot. Then what causes fatigue in FSGS?
Because the kidneys are responsible for removing waste products from the
bloodstream, a decline in kidney function will result in feelings of
sluggishness and constant unexplained fatigue. Some patients also feel weakness
throughout their body and have trouble sleeping or concentrating.
Anemia is the most common cause of fatigue in FSGS kidney disease. When the
kidneys are impaired, waste products or uremic toxins will build up in the blood
stream. Moreover, healthy kidneys can also secrete several important hormones,
one of which is called erythropoietin (EPO). This hormone can help the bone
marrow make new red blood cells. As kidney function declines, they kidneys are
not able to release sufficient EPO, leading to fewer red blood cells count, or
anemia. Red blood cells contain a protein known as haemoglobin, which can
transport oxygen to all the parts of the body. Without enough supply of oxygen,
the cells in the body have to work harder, patients with FSGS will feel tired
all of time.
Another common cause of fatigue in FSGS may be lack of hydration. The energy
levels are directly associated with the kidneys′ ability to process liquids and
foods in the body. When the body runs low on water, it may also run low on
energy.
The above is a general introduction of the reasons of fatigue in FSGS.
Patients are suggested to talk with the doctor and find the specific causes so
that we can take corresponding treatment to eliminate the underlying cause.
