The Common Symptoms of FSGS

1. High Blood Pressure

Elevated blood pressure is often seen with primary FSGS. Many patients will have hypertension at the time of diagnosis.

2. Poor Appetite

Loss of appetite may be result from buildup of toxins in the body due to kidney dysfunction of filtering toxic wastes, medicines, and diet changes.

3. Edema

Some patients with FSGS develop edema of the eyelids in the morning and swollen of the legs, ankles, feet, hands, face or abdomen late in the day due to fluid retention.

4. Fatigue

Fatigue in kidney disease is most often caused by anemia, a shortage of oxygen-carrying red blood cells.

5. Nausea and vomiting

With severely damaged kidney function, large amount of nitrogen will buildup in the blood and stimulate the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in nausea and vomiting.

6. Weight gain

If the body retains water, rapid weight gain may be caused.

7. Foamy urine

This is due to excessive Protein in Urine. The glomeruli of the kidneys have responsibility of regulating protein levels in the urine. When the glomeruli become damaged or scarred, they are unable to prevent protein from leaving the body in the urine, proteinuria presents. When protein from the urine hits the toilet bowl after urination, foamy or frothy urine is produced.

Other signs and symptoms of FSGS may also include pain of back (flank and abdomen), low blood protein, high blood cholesterol level, fever and chill, etc.
