What are the common causes of FSGS? This is question that all of patients
want to care most. This article will focus on this.
Focal Segmental Glomerulonephritis (FSGS) is a renal disorder, in which scar
tissue covers some sections of glomeruli. These scars can damage glomerular
basement membrane and lead to nephrotic syndrome, Chronic renal failure and
uremia. FSGS causes can be divided into two broad categories, primary and
secondary. Here, we mainly talk about the secondary causes.
Primary causes of FSGS
Primary causes of FSGS means that doctors have not found its underlying
causes. Usually, it presents as nephrotic syndrome. However, there are several
currently genetic reasons which are associated with FSGS.
Secondary cause of FSGS
Secondary cause of FSGS means that it is associated with the other
disorders.
1. Infections, including HIV, Hepatitis B and Parvovirus.
2. Diseases, such as massive obesity, sickle cell nephropathy and congenital
cyanotic heart disease.
3. The damage to glomeruli. There are thousands of tiny filters in kidneys,
called glomeruli, which overworks to push their limits by other diseases.
No matter primary or secondary FSGS causes, it is sure that FSGS results from
the damage of glomerular basement membrane. What we can do is to repair the
impaired glomeruli, thus avoids or delay the progress of FSGS (Focal Segmental
Glomerulonephrits).
